Yesterday, I sadly witnessed a Jew who abandoned their obligation to serve HaQodesh Barukh Hu (The Holy One, blessed be He).
When I was asked why and how could this have happened? I reflected back to when I was taught, that when a person neglects their obligation to study Torah, they forget who they are, and their duty to The Creator.
“Until when is a person obligated to study Torah? Until the day he dies, as [Deuteronomy 4:9] states: ‘However, be on your guard and be very careful not to forget the things your own eyes have seen, nor let them slip from your heart as long as you live,…’ Whenever a person is not involved with study, he forgets.” -RaMBaM, MT Hilkhoth Talmud Torah 1,10
